3/28/2024 - Earlier this morning, we responded to another sweep at what has become our primary location for Saturday distros. All but one vehicle residence was able to move under their own power ahead of time and our crew assisted our friends in trying to get the vehicle started. Unfortunately, the problem appeared to go beyond the scope of what we had available to assist with in the given amount of time. Luckily, one of our neighbors with a truck was able to safely tow them out of the sweep zone without incident. Despite this latest sweep clearing out the vehicles at our primary location where we have consistently been seeing at least 40 people each week, we have no plans at this time to relocate our regular distro spot. Many of the people we see there come out from nearby apartments and many more of our friends living in vehicles drive from surrounding areas to meet us there. The air of community on that block for an hour or two each Saturday that all of these folks, including you, our supporters and donors, have come together to create is incredible, jovial and wholesome. And we won't let anything stand in the way of a good time; we are the mutual aid *party* afterall!
4/1/2024 - Community means a lot to us, so recently we had custom enamel pins made with our logo. We've been hinting at this for a few weeks now, and they finally arrived! As a donor and supporter of West Seattle Mutual Aid Party, we would love to give you one of these pins for you to display proudly and maybe have it spark conversations about our work and about mutual aid. Just email us back with a way to get you the pin! We'll handle the rest. Consider this a small token of our appreciation for supporting this effort and our neighborhood and the unhoused community.
4/17/2024 - We saw an incredible, record-breaking 74 people at distro this week! We've been keeping track of some special requests that folks have been making and doing our best to fulfill them. This week, the request was for more chips. We get the vast majority of our food from the West Seattle Food Bank, which has allowed us to use our funds to do our propane program as well as supplement as needed for both people and pet food. Most people come through on our South route and we see them go through the line within an hour. We saw both people we hadn't seen for a while as well as some new faces.
