May 2023 Newsletter

Northwest Hospitality serves our unhoused neighbors through several unique programs. This month, we are highlighting the Hospitality Card program

What is a hospitality card?
Hospitality cards are similar to debit cards and operate through the PEX platform, which allows Northwest Hospitality to issue and manage cards for the unhoused folks we work with or advocates who work with homeless people to help them meet their needs. Northwest Hospitality can add funds and manage the use of cards held by different people.

Who uses hospitality cards?
Unhoused people and their advocates use the cards. Hospitality cards are currently being used by eight beneficiaries, six advocates, and two organizations that work to support people experiencing homelessness.

How are hospitality cards used?
Hospitality cards are used to directly support people surviving homelessness and enable their advocates. Cards have been used to purchase meals, clothes, phone minutes, vehicle repairs, tarps, tents, and other items essential to un-sheltered survival.

Through the use of hospitality cards, volunteers and advocates get to have more frequent conversations and build relationships with people using the cards, while helping them meet their needs with flexibility and dignity.
